Words With Letters

Got a handful of letters and a feeling they hide a real word? Type them in and this finder shows every English word that contains all of your letters, in any order and any position.

How to find words with your letters

  1. Type your letters into the "Your letters" box — order does not matter.
  2. If you need a specific length (for example, a 6-letter answer), choose it in the length box; otherwise leave it on "Any length".
  3. Optionally ban letters with the "Must NOT contain" box.
  4. Press "Find words". Every result contains all of your letters at least once.

This is the quickest way to explore a messy rack of tiles or a stubborn anagram puzzle. A useful trick: repeat a letter if you have it twice — type "ee" and only words containing two E letters will match, which is exactly what you want when doubles are on your rack. Start broad with three or four letters, then add more letters to focus in on the word you need.

This tool is one half of the finder method — our guide How to Use a Word Finder puts it together with fixed positions and exclusions, step by step.

Frequently asked questions

Do the letters have to be next to each other?

No. Your letters can appear anywhere in the word, in any order and with other letters between them. If you need letters side by side at the start or end, try the Words Starting With or Words Ending With tools instead.

What if I type the same letter twice?

The finder respects repeats: typing a letter twice means results must contain that letter at least twice. That makes it easy to search with a real tile rack.

Which games is this useful for?

Any game where you hold letters and need words from them — tile board games, anagram apps, word cookies-style games, and puzzle books. It is also handy for writers hunting for a word with a certain sound or letter mix.
