Choose a word tool

Word Finder Tools is a small, fast toolbox for word lovers. It opens with two social helpers — a caption maker and a text post maker for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn — followed by the word finders. Each finder searches the same open dictionary of more than 125,000 English words, but asks a different question: words of an exact length that match your clues, words containing a set of letters, words that start or end a certain way, and full anagram solving. Pick the tool that matches your puzzle, type what you know, and get an honest list of answers in a fraction of a second. Nothing here needs an account, an app or a download — the whole search happens on your own device, so even your half-finished puzzle ideas stay private.

How the finder thinks

Most word puzzles give you partial information: a letter fixed in place by a crossword crossing, a yellow letter that belongs somewhere, a rack of tiles with one awkward Q. The general finder above takes all three kinds of clue at once — fixed positions, must-include letters and must-exclude letters — and keeps only the words that satisfy every clue. That is the same logic good players use on paper, just done across the whole dictionary before you can blink. If you get zero results, a clue is wrong somewhere; remove the least certain one and search again.

Frequently asked questions

Are these word tools really free?

Yes. Every tool on this site is free, with no account, no sign-up and no search limits. Advertising keeps the site running so the tools can stay free.

How does the word finder work?

You tell it what you know: letters fixed in certain positions, letters the word must include, and letters it must not contain. It then filters a dictionary of over 125,000 English words and shows only the matches — all inside your browser.

Which word list do the tools use?

We build on SCOWL, an open spell-checker word list project (the English Speller Database) released under a permissive licence by Kevin Atkinson. It covers standard American English, including plenty of uncommon words for harder puzzles.

Is my data private?

Completely. Every search runs in your own browser using JavaScript. The letters you type are never uploaded, stored or tracked by us. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Can I use these tools on my phone?

Yes — the site is designed mobile-first and works on any phone, tablet or computer. There is nothing to install.
