6-Letter Word Finder

Six-letter answers turn up everywhere — in crosswords, word ladders and plenty of mobile word games. Enter what you know into the boxes below and this finder lists every 6-letter word that matches your clues.

How to use the 6-letter word finder

  1. Type a letter into a box only when you know it sits in exactly that position.
  2. Add letters the answer must contain (in any position) in the "Must include" box.
  3. Add letters you have ruled out in the "Must NOT contain" box.
  4. Press "Find words" and tap any result to copy it.

Six letters give you far more possible combinations than five, so clues matter. A single fixed letter plus one excluded letter can cut the list dramatically. If your results list is still long, think about common endings: many six-letter words end in S, D, R or Y, and adding a second known position usually narrows things to a handful of candidates you can test quickly in your puzzle.

New to these clues? Our guide How to Use a Word Finder explains known letters, must-include letters and exclusions step by step, with a worked example.

Frequently asked questions

How many 6-letter words are there?

Our word list holds over 11,000 six-letter words, from everyday ones like "garden" and "market" to rarities kept for the hardest crosswords. Your clues decide how many of them you see.

Can I search with only some letters known?

Yes. Leave any box empty and that position can be any letter. You can even search with no positions filled in, using only the include and exclude boxes.

Is my search private?

Yes. The search runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript — the letters you type are never sent to a server or stored anywhere.
